Dormers On Long Island

Have you considered having a dormer added to your home? The biggest candidate for a dormer are home owners who live in a Cape Cod style home. Cape Cod homes are scattered throughout Nassau and Suffolk County. There are other style homes that could use a dormer such as ranches and split levels but Cape Cod homes usually need to be dormered the most. Once a Cape Cod style home is “dormered” it changes the whole look and tremendously increases the usability and value of your home. A dormered house gives bedrooms and living spaces the separation it needs, separating the private spaces upstairs from the public spaces downstairs.

It’s always best practice to add a bathroom upstairs with your dormer. Bedrooms upstairs with no bathroom would render those spaces almost useless. Having to walk downstairs to use the bathroom is not proper design. If you can’t afford to have a bathroom built during time of construction then at least have the bathroom framed. You can always finish it off at a later date.

Having plans drawn up for your dormer is the best way to go about it. Your plans will be configured by a qualified architect and they act as a contract or road map for your contractor to follow. They specify codes and general building practices. It puts the homeowner and the contractor on the same page. Also the architect will be able to pull permits for you.
